Barcelona (towards the Costa Brava) September 2007
This week's charter was arranged for us by Nick and Lesley, who had interests in Spain near Barcelona and had sailed with us in previous years. We had some spectacular rain-storms, and a magnificent welcome on our return to Barcelona when we were buzzed by jet fighters who were practising for a display to be held the next day. They were so close that we could smell the smoke that they were releasing to show their trails.
Also memorable for me was a single kingfisher that flew the length of the pontoon that we were moored to in Arenys de Mar. It seemed a strange inversion of their usual habit of flying along a stream for it to ignore the water and fly along a strip of artificial land!
Google Earth "KMZ" file: Full track (64Kb) but zipped to 21Kb.
Note from this track (and the image above) that we seemed to have been tacking into the wind both up the coast and back down again. Such is the lot of the sailor!
Below are some photos taken during this trip. Hover over each for an explanation or click for a (much) larger version.
