Marmaris to Fethiye, Turkey, October 2010
For this trip we had a 34 foot yacht for just the two of us for the first week so that we would have space for Brian, Diane and their son Jamie to join us for the second week. Father and son had been with us for two weeks last year but Diane could only get away for one week.
In previous October trips the weather had been reasonable but apparently Autumn is just as fickle as it can be in the UK. We had numerous thunderstorms, and rain storms without visible or audible electricity. Fortunately the BBC weather forecast had warned before we left of “heavy rain showers” so we were equipped. It was not always warmer than at home, either.
The trip was similar to last year in the itinerary, with the exception that because of the southerly winds we did not go to Ekincik in the second week and thus Diane did not have the option of doing the Dalyan river trip (nor to get muddy as Brian and Jamie did last year).
The track may look a bit odd in that there are multiple excursions out into the bay marked “Claucus Sinus” which look pointless. They are partly because we were urged to empty our (sewage) holding tank at least three miles off-shore, and partly to get a bit of sailing in between destinations which were rather close together.
