Göcek,Turkey, October 2013 "Seven Capes"
Unfortunately, Lesley was not a crew member on this trip. Probably just as well, given the problems that we had with the (sewage) holding tank not emptying and leaking! However, Bob was able to join Ian and me from his home in Brittany again. He was the crew member who spotted the dolphins and flying fish. And practised his French by finding French speakers on other yachts to chat to. My French just about stretches to understanding when one lady acknowledged that their large dog had “tombé à l'eau”, explaining all the splashing that we had heard!
The flotilla was well run by Mike and Debbie of Seafarer, though there was only one other customer yacht, two-up, on the first week, plus another (which had a major health handicap) on the second. The first, rather cool, week yielded some exciting sailing, well reefed! The second week included a day spent in Tersane, sheltering from an all-day thunderstorm, while we timed the lightning flashes getting nearer!
Matching the tracks shown above, see Google Earth "KMZ" multi-coloured path files first week (31Kb); second week (23Kb). Alternatively use these links to display via Google Maps: first week; second week. The colours go brown, red, orange, yellow, green and blue for the first week and then brown, red, orange, yellow and green for the second week. The first week track has a large missing section (in orange) past the “seven capes”, probably due to the early start making me to forget to turn on my GPS. The second week track has a small gap (in red) at the end of the same section but I do not remember why.
In the second week track for the 16th October our route out of Fethiye takes us to the south-west of island Kizil Adasi. There the track has a visible kink (especially if you zoom in!). This is where we motored slowly in circles to re-calibrate our electronic compass. The auto-helm worked much better with the chart plotter after that!
Below is a collage of some of the few photos I took on the two weeks. Click to view them in Picasa web.
